Project Management: Saving, Loading & Copies

[!NOTE] Project files allow you to preserve all your station selections, customized parameter edits, date filters, and simulation settings so you can return to them later or share them with colleagues.

Managing your simulation work is straightforward using the built-in Project Management features.

Saving Your Project

When you configure a project—selecting a station, filtering date ranges, calibrating CLIGEN parameters, and setting simulation options—you can save the entire state:

  1. Click on the Project menu in the top navigation bar.
  2. Select Save Project (or Save As New Project).
  3. Enter a descriptive Project Name (for example: Elko Mine Site Closure - Phase 2 or Salt Lake Airport 50-Yr Storm Analysis).
  4. (Optional) Add project notes, such as client names, job numbers, or specific assumptions.
  5. Click Save.

Your project configuration is stored securely under your user account and can be accessed from any web browser upon logging in.

Loading an Existing Project

To open an existing project:

  1. Click Project in the top navigation bar and select Open Project.
  2. A list of your saved projects will appear, sorted by most recently modified.
  3. You can search by project name or filter by creation date.
  4. Click on the project name. The application will instantly restore:
  5. The selected station or uploaded weather data.
  6. The active date screening range.
  7. The calibrated 12-month precipitation and temperature parameter tables.
  8. The simulation settings (duration, time step, realizations).
  9. Any previous simulation run results and comparison charts.

Duplicating Projects for Scenario Analysis

Engineers frequently need to evaluate multiple climate scenarios (for example, comparing a Baseline Historic Climate against a Climate Change +15% Storm Intensity scenario).

To create a scenario branch: 1. Load your baseline project. 2. In the Project menu, select Make a Copy. 3. Name the new copy (e.g., Elko Mine Site - +15% Extreme Precipitation). 4. Modify the CLIGEN parameters (such as increasing the monthly rainfall depth means or storm skewness). 5. Run the new simulation. Both projects remain separate and independently saved.

Exporting & Archiving Project Files

For regulatory submissions, project archives, or offline backup, you can export your entire project state as a standalone JSON Project Archive: - Click Project → Export Archive (.json). - This creates a portable, human-readable file containing all raw input records, calibrated parameters, and simulation metadata. - Anyone with access to the Climate Simulator can import this .json archive file to reproduce your exact results.
